Juniors and seniors at the Mississippi School of the Arts will be performing a fall dance concert this weekend that could be the perfect post-Halloween activity for those still suffering from a Milky Way high.

Staged at Enochs Hall at the MSA, the concert will showcase the individual and collective talents of students passionate about the art of dance.

A majority of the senior students that are involved in the concert have devoted much of their focus specifically to the studies of art and dance at MSA. Junior students will accompany the senior students at the shows. The students make up a collective, which is known as the “Fourth Repertory Dance Company.”

Music selections are chosen by the students performing the dance and span the spectrum of musical variety, according to Jennifer Jackson, coordinator of school advancement at MSA.

Senior students will also be doing all of the dance choreography, a skill they have learned under the direction of Tammy Stanford-Williams, director of dance and movement specialist for theater and voice.

Stanford-Williams is a teaching artist for the Mississippi Arts Commission. In 2004, she was awarded the “Thad Cochran Distinguished Arts Educator.”

The concert takes approximately one and a half hours, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The concert is open to the public.
