Seniors Noah Allen and Shelby Case were recognized as Most Valuable Players at Monday night’s Brookhaven Soccer Awards Banquet. Around 80 soccer supporters were on hand for the celebration.
Brookhaven Soccer Booster Club president Woody Breeland welcomed the crowd and delivered the invocation. At the conclusion of the program, Breeland presented gifts of appreciation to BHS soccer coaches Kevin Bower, Anjan Karmacharya and Molly Greer.
“Our coaches did a great job with the kids this year,” said Breeland. “I want to thank everyone who was involved with our soccer program, especially the booster club members.”
Bower, the BHS girls team coach, said he appreciated the seniors for their hard work and team leadership. “We had a goal of making the state playoffs and we accomplished that.”
Bower noted that the BHS varsity girls have qualified for an MHSAA Scholar/Athlete Award. The team achieved a 3.25 grade point average.
He thanked the players and parents for their fundraising efforts during the season. “We sold T-shirts, caps and fish plates.”
Madisyn Wall and Sawyer Jordan were presented soccer shoe gift certificates for selling the most tickets.
Karmacharya praised his boys team’s improvements during the campaign and said, “We look forward to going farther in the playoffs next year. We need the support of you parents. It’s very important that you encourage them at home.”
Bower agreed. “The more people we get interested in our program, the better we will be.”
Breeland said he appreciated all of the work contributed by club officers Sharon Allen, secretary-treasurer; Sue Junkin, concessions; David Culpepper, Fish Fry Fundraiser; and Sharon Allen, T-Shirt Fundraiser.
