West Lincoln boys, Lady Cats bag wins

UTICA – No. 1 seed West Lincoln walloped St. Aloysius 88-38 Thursday night in the semifinals of the Region 7-1A Tournament, led by Lucas Burris and Duane Marshall with 19 and 14 points respectively. Sam Bivens chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds.
In girls action, No. 1 seed Hinds AHS smashed West Lincoln 64-43, led by Tesha Dixon’s 24 points. Bogue Chitto’s girls struggled past Natchez Cathedral 33-21 over Natchez Cathedral.
The West Lincoln boys (26-3) play No. 2 seed Hinds AHS tonight at 8:30 in the championship. The Hinds AHS girls meet Bogue Chitto at 7.
In the consolation games, West Lincoln meets Natchez Cathedral’s girls at 4 and St. Al plays Bogue Chitto’s boys at 5:30.
The Bears roared to a 53-23 halftime lead. Lofton Sills and Burris each had 7 rebounds in the win. Jared Case had 4 assists and 3 steals. LaKeith Ward and Marshall each made 4 assists.
“It will be a tough matchup with Hinds at their place,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We need to be mentally and physically strong. I hope we have a big green crowed to support us.”
St. Al got 10 points from Matthew Foley.
The Lady Bears (10-18) were no match for Hinds AHS. They trailed 41-13 at halftime. They got 9 points from Layton Sills.
“Hinds has way too much athleticism and quickness for us,” said Coach Young. “We have to regroup and get ready for Cathedral.”
Erica Harris scored 11 points and Octavia Barnes 10 in the victory
The Lady Cats got 10 points from Zoriah Matthews. Christian Black had 8 points and Adrienne Wallace 7.
“We struggled throughout the entire game,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “We hustled and played hard but we did a poor job hitting the boards. We must get our heads right and focus on Hinds.”
Cathedral got 8 points from Kennedy Gray. The Lady Green Wave trailed 19-6 at halftime.
