Angelina Earl was in a zone Friday night in Brookhaven’s Sinclair Gymnasium. The McComb senior guard pumped in a game-high 20 points, including 6 treys, several from NBA range, in a 54-46 Region 7-5A win against Ole Brook’s Lady Panthers.

     Earl’s twin sister, Angelique, sacked 2 treys in the victory, which saw the Lady Tigers hiking their record to 13-5 overall and 2-0 in the region race.

     McComb coach Angela Johnson preferred to promote the team effort in her postgame discourse. “We put a full game together. This is the first time they played together. They did a great job finishing the game.”

     Angelina Earl even swished a shot from midcourt in a halftime shooting competition during the boys game. She had 8 rebounds in the victory and teammate Reneka Felder had 7 boards.

     The Lady Panthers (16-6, 2-1) gave a mighty effort to knock off their archrivals from Pike County but the Earls’ perimeter shooting kept them at bay. Angelina Earl sacked 3, first-half 3s as the Lady Tigers took a 31-23 advantage. They led 41-32 on a trey by Earl at the end of the third quarter.

     Coach Freda Craft’s girls committed 8 of their 17 turnovers in the decisive third quarter when McComb forged a 12-point lead. They reduced their deficit to 7 points, 44-37, with 5:32 remaining in the game on a trey by senior guard Christen Benson.

     Angelina and Angelique Earl both sacked treys and Felder broke away for a layup to secure the win.

     “We got no block outs on second shots and we couldn’t seem to get our offense going,” said Craft. “McComb shot the ball well.”

     Senior center Carey Crozier accounted for 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the loss. Guard Jessica Wilson scored 10 points. Fredericka Fairman accounted for 9 rebounds. Post Archea Brotherns had 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

     The Lady Panthers take a 2-week break from their schedule before resuming play Feb. 25, at McComb.
