BROOKHAVEN — Dark clouds, heavy rain, gusty winds and thunder rolled through Lincoln County last Wednesday. It was forecast to be a rough day for the area but minimal damage was reported in the county while tornadoes touched down in other parts of the state. 

Downed trees and powerlines were the only casualties suffered in Lincoln County. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reported the storms from April 9 to 10 resulted in 286 homes damaged, nine injuries and one death statewide. 

The National Weather Service office in Jackson reported four tornadoes touched down from April 9 to April 10’s severe storms. One tornado touched down near Oak Ridge in Warren County and was an EF0 and traveled 1.9 miles on April 9. It was the first tornado to touch down in the storm. 

Later on the night of April 9, an EF1 tornado touched down in Hinds County near Learned and Raymond. The tornado traveled 8.1 miles causing damage to trees and damage to homes by trees which fell on them according to the NWS preliminary report. 

On April 10, NWS Jackson reported an EF0 tornado touched down in Madison County near Mannsdale. The tornado traveled 0.7 miles. Later on April 10, a tornado touched down in Harrison County near Wolf River. The EF1 tornado traveled 4.1 miles. 

Of the 11 tornadoes in Mississippi this year, no one has been injured or killed according to the National Weather Service.
