BROOKHAVEN — Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reported homes were damaged, trees downed, roads blocked, power outages and casualties following severe storms starting April 9. Lincoln County survived the storms relatively unscathed. 

Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said he did not have any reports of damage other than a few trees taking out power lines. Roads remain open in Lincoln County and linemen crews are working to restore power. 

Magnolia Electric had 1,900 customers without power at one point in Lincoln County but the number of customers without power was cut to 900 by 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Southwest Electric reports 148 customers are without power in Lincoln County. Entergy reports 20 customers in Lincoln County are without power. 

 

Statewide damage

Severe storms moved across central Mississippi Tuesday afternoon to open two days of rough weather. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reports there was one death in Scott County and an injury in Grenada County. Statewide, 72 homes were damaged by storms as reported by counties. 

Storm damage by County as of 1:30 p.m.:

• Grenada – 1 injury, 3 homes
• Hinds– 6 homes
• Marshall – 9 homes
• Scott- 1 death, 45 homes
• Warren – 3 homes
• Yazoo – 6 homes

MEMA encourages residents who’ve sustained damage after a severe weather event to do the following:

• File an insurance claim.
• Take photos of the damage to the home.
• Report damage to county/MEMA via the self-report tool.
