BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County is not under a heat advisory Friday as the area gets a reprive from high temperatures. Compared to 99 degrees, the forecasted high of 93 Friday is a nice cool snap.

National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts the temperatures to stay between 93 and 95 on Saturday and Sunday before the weather heats up again. Monday’s forecasted high is 97 and Tuesday through Thursday is forecast to reach highs of 99, 99 and 98. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms are currently forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

Eyes now turn to the tropics as another tropical wave is forecast to move westward towards Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic by the middle part of next week. According to the National Hurricane Center, the tropical wave is producing a large number of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the tropical Atlantic Ocean. Development of this wave “should be slow,” over the next few days.

NHC forecasts a 60 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation in the next seven days.  The Daily Leader will continue to monitor the tropical cyclone formation during the 2024 Hurricane Season.
