Reports of a recent shooting at the City Park on Lipsey Street are inaccurate, according to Brookhaven’s top police officer.
“There has been no shooting at Lipsey Park,” Chief Kenneth Collins said Monday. “There were shots fired over on North Jackson Street.”
The close proximity of the shots was likely heard by individuals at the park and assumed to be closer, the chief said.
A 19-year-old suspect, Kriston Ramsey, was arrested Friday after a four-hour manhunt by law enforcement. Ramsey had gotten into a tussle with a police officer at Jackson Square Apartments over a firearm. The gun discharged, and the suspect was shot in the leg by his own weapon.
Ramsey had been wanted on a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office felony warrant for auto theft. The chief said officers from the sheriff’s office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Department of Corrections, Bude Police, and ATF all assisted in locating Ramsey, who was ultimately apprehended by an LCSO deputy.
Ramsey was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and felony motor vehicle taking.
