2 killed in Saturday wrecks in Lincoln County

A Loyd Star man and a Yazoo City teenager were each killed in separate automotive crashes Saturday.

At about 12:40 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M responded to a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Hwy. 550 and Dunn-Ratcliff Road, according to MHP Cpl. Craig James.

A 2012 GMC Sierra pickup — driven by 80-year-old Jerry Calcote of Wesson — was traveling east on Hwy. 550 when it collided with a 1985 Honda Motorcycle traveling west. The operator of the motorcycle was 50-year-old Michael W. Falvey, of Loyd Star.

Falvey received life-threatening injuries from the crash and was transported via ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Later Saturday afternoon, at approximately 3:31 p.m., troopers responded to a crash on Interstate 55 near mile marker 48.

A 2011 Ford Explorer driven by 18-year-old Nazaria Phillips, of Yazoo City, was traveling south on I-55 when it left the roadway. The vehicle collided with a guardrail and overturned.

Phillips suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

These crashes remain under investigation by MHP.
