Brookhaven Police Department have arrested two individuals on felony charges.
A burglary and mischief suspect was arrested in Hinds County Friday, and turned over to Brookhaven police.
Robert Thomas Jr. was observed on security video breaking out the front window at Three Sisters Boutique on Brookway Boulevard, Collins said. Thomas was also observed committing three auto burglaries at Stan King Chevrolet in Brookhaven, according to the police chief.
“If it would not have been for these businesses having excellent cameras to assist us in this arrest, we would still have no suspect,” said Collins. “Once we got the clear pictures, we worked with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to identify this person. Thank you to them for assisting, and thanks to Hinds County Sheriff’s Office for making the arrest. This is why I always advise the City to get this real-time crime center up and going to keep our city and our kids as safe as possible.”
Thomas was charged with felony malicious mischief and three counts of auto burglary.
On Wednesday, police arrested Demeda Rancifer of Brookhaven and charged her with felony taking of a motor vehicle. Rancifer is accused of not returning a rented 2023 Nissan Altima to Enterprise Rental. Collins said officers were able to make the arrest and recover the vehicle by blocking the suspect in at a residence.
“In spite of the darkness, BPD, its staff and officers are steady walking it like we’re talking it every day,” Collins said. “If you do not pull on our shoes and lace them up, you cannot tell us how to walk. There are people putting my officers’ names, the shifts they work, and the times they work on social media. If one of my officers gets hurt because of the carelessness of one these individuals, I will bring the full weight of the law down on them. We are Brookhaven strong.”
