Severe weather returns later this week

BROOKHAVEN — Enjoy the beautiful weather before things are forecast to get ugly later this week.
Monday has been a little windy but there are more weather hazards expected this week. Today’s wind is forecast to get up to 20 mph sustained winds with gusts greater than 30 mph until about 6 p.m.
NWS Jackson forecasts severe weather to arrive Thursday after moving through north Mississippi Wednesday. Lincoln County and the surrounding area is under an enhanced risk of storms capable of producing tornadoes Thursday afternoon into the evening.
Severe thunderstorms will be likely, tornadoes are likely with some possibly being strong. Damaging wind gusts and hail are expected. The event remains several days away so stay tuned for more updates the closer the date comes.
NWS Jackson is under going upgrades to its radar which should be completed this week. In the radar’s down time, Columbus AFB, MS (KGWX), Mobile, AL (KMOB), Slidell, LA (KLIX), Fort Polk, LA (KPOE), Shreveport, LA (KSHV), Little Rock, AR (KSHV), and Memphis, TN (KNQA) will provide radar coverage. Lincoln County has had one tornado this year according to the NWS. It touched down in the Little Bahalia Community on February 16, 2023. Mississippi has seen 14 tornadoes touch down this year with just one injury.
