Softball jamboree attracts big crowd

MONTICELLO – Saturday’s Lawrence County Lady Cougars Classic provided plenty of slowpitch softball action for area fans as teams played 4-inning or 1-hour limit games. Each team realized a split, going 1-1.
Lawrence County beat Franklin County 8-0 in the morning opener and lost the finale to Wayne County 5-2.
“We had a lot of people there and it was a good day,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “The gate sold over 200 tickets.”
In other action, McComb beat Brookhaven 16-3 but the Lady Panthers rebounded to edge Bogue Chitto 1-0. Bogue Chitto clipped Wayne County 5-4. Franklin County beat McComb 5-1.
McComb, coached by West Lincoln graduate Cody Hall, hosts a MHSAA Classic Tournament this Saturday. Lawrence County plays at 2:15 and 3 p.m. Saturday , meeting Franklin County and West Lincoln.
