Posey commits to Hinds

Three-sport standout Gage Posey of Brookhaven Academy has made a verbal commitment to sign a scholarship with the Hinds Community College Eagles. Posey plans to play baseball for the Eagles and he said he has an option to play football.
Posey quarterbacked the BA Cougars to the MAIS Class AA State Football Championship Nov. 23, beating Marshall Academy 49-40. He passed for six touchdowns and ran for another.
“I really love the coaches up there,” said Posey. “They do a lot of organizing. They have a championship program.”
Posey, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound southpaw, passed for over 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns his senior year. He also ran for 18 TDs, giving him 46 TDs on the season. He was named The DAILY LEADER’s Most Valuable Player and Mr. Football on the 2012 All-Lincoln County Team.
In baseball, Posey batted . posted a 4-1 pitching record for the Cougars. He struck out 47 batters and had a 2.21 ERA. At the plate, Posey batted .380, hit 2 homers and collected 25 RBIs.
Posey will play baseball for Coach Sam Temple at Hinds.
He was recruited by Co-Lin and Southwest Mississippi Community College coaches plus several more MACJC member schools.
Posey is the leading scorer for the BA basketball team that stands 16-8 on the season.
Brookhaven High senior shortstop Houston Case also has made a commitment to sign with Hinds on Feb. 6. Case batted. .307 for the Panthers and had 16 RBIs.
