Loyd Star boys land in playoffs

WESSON – The Loyd Star Hornets defeated Wesson’s Cobras 6-1 in a Friday night showdown on Co-Lin’s soccer field. Seth Farmer led the triumph with a 3-goal hat trick. Branden Canny added 1 goal and 1 assist. Braden Smith, and Tyler Crosby also scored as the Hornets qualified for the Class 1A-2A-3A state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Loyd Star plays Sacred Heart Tuesday in Hattiesburg.

“I’m very proud of our team,” said Loyd Star coach Dale Brister. “They worked together and passed the ball well. Our defense was pretty tight, so we played most of the game on our end of the field.”

Cole Moak worked as Loyd Star’s goal keeper. He made 5 saves in the archrival test.

Loyd Star’s defense was led by Brendyn Brister, Bradley Archer and Devlin Terry. The Hornets improved their record to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in district.

Wesson scored on a direct kick by Brandon Nettles.

In the girls game, Loyd Star scored a 6-2 triumph. Mallory Holden scored 3 goals for Loyd Star.
