Wesson beats Brook NL in AAA North subdistrict

WESSON – Twelve errors came back to haunt the BrookhavenNational All-Stars who fell to unbeaten Wesson 17-13 in the thirdround of the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA North Subdistrict SixTournament Monday night. Wesson committed four errors in thecontest.
In the loser’s bracket, Crystal Springs eliminated LincolnCounty 11-1.
Tonight at 7 p.m., the Brookhaven Nationals face Crystal Springswith the winner advancing to meet Wesson Thursday night. Tonight’swinner will have to beat Wesson twice to win the subdistricttitle.
Wesson picked up nine unearned run during Monday night’s winover the Nationals.
Brookhaven led 4-0 in the first inning and Wesson came back inthe second to cut the deficit to one run, 4-3. Over the third andfourth innings, Wesson outscored Brookhaven 9-5 for a 12-9 edge. Inthe final two innings, Wesson went on a 5-4 run to push its lead to17-13 and secure the win.
Brookhaven outhit Wesson 15-11.
Alan Stegall was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts andfive walking in six innings.
The losing hurler, with one strikeout and one walk, was ScottyBrown who worked the third and fourth innings. Ky Mathas startedfor Brookhaven.
Powering Wesson with a double and a single was Matt Smith.Drilling a pair of singles apiece were Brady Knight and Troy Smith.Doubling was Lonnie Reeves. Trent Rutland, Joey Hamilton, Stegalland Ben Head hit safely.
Robbie Coone powered Brookhaven with a triple and two singles.Doubling twice was Jacob Griffin. Josh McCaffery collected a doubleand a pair of singles. Ripping a double and a single was EvanSmith. John Martin Davis and Brown followed with two singlesapiece. Jonathan Blair singled.
