Sontag man gets 40 years for meth possession

A Sontag man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for drug charges.

On Wednesday, March 8, a Lawrence County jury found Dan Mack Turnage, 56, guilty of possession of 11.86 grams of methamphetamine.

Turnage was arrested in August 2020. He was sentenced on Friday, March 10, at the Lawrence County Courthouse by Circuit Court Judge Brad Touchstone to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 20 of those years to serve as a habitual offender.

Turnage still faces charges of grand larceny, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime.

“I would like to thank the Lawrence County jury for this just verdict,” said District Attorney Hal Kittrell. “We were able to take a habitual offender off the streets and show that there are severe consequences for those involved in the drug trade in Lawrence County. We appreciate the investigation on this case by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.”
