Hux’s Homer secures sweep of Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Senior Karla Beth Hux hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the sixth inning of a 2-0 victory over Christian Brothers University on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched the series and secrured a doubleheader sweep after the Lady Choctaws won the first game, 9-1.

The Lady Choctaws (5-3, 2-0 GSC) played their first Gulf South Conference games in 18 years and picked up two victories, thanks to Hux’s second-career home run.

Junior Carlie Sargent (3-1) tossed a shutout for MC, allowing just three hits with six strikeouts.

In the first game of the day, the Lady Choctaws got an outstanding effort from junior Madison Oliver, who went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, including a two-run double in the 6-run fifth inning that broke open a tie game.

Sophomore Megan Everett went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while senior Shay Mickens and junior Kimmie Conley had two hits apiece.

Senior Lacie Patterson (1-1) picked up her first win of the season, allowing just one hit and one walk over 5.0 innings. Freshman Katherine Lee pitched the final inning, striking out two.

The Lady Choctaws and Lady Bucs (2-8, 0-2 GSC) will be back in action on Sunday when they will wrap up the series with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
