LCHS Lady Cougars thump Columbia

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars battled through the wet and sloppy weather conditions to defeat the Columbia Lady Wildcats 11-1 in Region 7-4A fastpitch softball action.

“Tonight was a sloppy night due to the weather conditions, but we hit the ball solid and played good defense,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “It was nice to get this game in and get another district win under our belts.

The Lady Cougars (12-3, 2-2) will return to action Tuesday as they prepare to host their arch region rivals, the North Pike Lady Jaguars, for a huge division test. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Lawrence Co. 11, Columbia 1 

After a quick burst of thunderstorms Thursday evening, the Lady Cougars managed to get their field ready in time to battle the Lady Wildcats.

Lawrence County did not waste any time setting the tone of the contest and they blast the Columbia Lady Wildcats in the first three innings of action to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

Columbia managed to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning as they push one run across the plate, failed to keep the contest going as Lawrence County secured the victory in five innings.

Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with six strikeouts and one walk.

Molly Monk suffered the lost for the Lady Wildcats with no strikeouts and eight walks.

Jamie Martins sparked Lawrence County’s offense with a triple and a single. Callie Fortenberry fueled the flames with two singles. Alexsundria Thomas provide a double and Madison Hyde had a single.

Alyssa Pendergrass and Jada Everett were the top hitters at the plate for Columbia with a single each.
