Panthers defeat Gulfport

The Brookhaven Panthers were victorious Saturday as they knocked off Gulfport 70-56 in boys’ basketball tournament action at Harrison Central.

Brookhaven will be in action today as it hosts the Franklin County Bulldogs for three games at Sinclair Gymnasium. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 70, Gulfport 56 

Brookhaven and Gulfport battled in a close first half of action as the Panthers carried a 27-21 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Brookhaven’s offense caught fire and outscored Gulfport 43-35 to remain undefeated on the season at 4-0.

Damarius Brook powered the Panthers with 17 points and nine rebounds. Darius Bryant chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds. Garrick Smith provided 10 points and had seven rebounds. Lazorian McNulty netted nine points. Shon Blackwell and Danarius Gray scored eight points apiece. Darrian Wilson had five points and Triq Reese added two points.

Raekwon Murphy paced Gulfport’s offense with 12 points. Tyrell McArthur and Daquarius McCord contributed nine points each.
