The awesome week for Brookhaven High tennis in Vicksburg at the MHSAA 5A State Tennis Tournament was wrapped up with some Panthers bringing back individual titles for the program after Ole Brook defeated Stone County on Monday for the 5A Team Championship.
The duo of Isaac Iles and Addy Foster in mixed doubles helped BHS defeat Stone and the pair then went on to win the 5A Individual State Championship as well. Foster is a junior who also plays volleyball while Iles is a sophomore who kicks for the football team and plays soccer for the Panthers.
John Sones and Cohen Leggett finished runners-up in the 5A boys’ doubles championship, losing a close battle to a pair of athletes from Lafayette High School. Sones is a senior and Leggett is a sophomore.
Senior Ella Thompson made the finals of the 5A girl’s singles bracket. Thompson is signed to play tennis next year at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
Senior Caroline Kilpatrick and freshman Anne Stewart won the 5A girls’ doubles championship by beating a pair of their Ole Brook teammates in freshmen Claire Sones and Ava Kate Bairfield.
It was a fourth individual championship to cap off the tennis career of Kilpatrick, who has signed to play the spot next year at Jones College.
Kilpatrick won four titles with four different partners, taking gold in mixed doubles as an eighth grader with Robert Adcock, girls’ doubles as a freshman with Lucy Allen, mixed doubles as a junior with Leggett and then the championship this season with Stewart as her partner.
