Baseball roundup — BC Bobcats inch closer to region title with win over West Lincoln

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats took two out of three from Loyd Star in an important region series last week. Here is a look at how the Bobcats and other area baseball programs did in games played earlier this week.
Bogue Chitto 7, West Lincoln 3
Bogue Chitto coach Seth Avants saw his team pick up a big region win via another outstanding outing from junior pitcher Tripp McCaffrey on the mound.
The 6-foot-5 McCaffrey fanned 15 batters, walked three and gave up two earned runs on five hits. McCaffrey struck out 11 last week in an 8-5 win over Loyd Star.
Bogue Chitto scored three runs in the top of the first on Tuesday at West Lincoln. The Bears and coach Chris Lyle fought back to score two on their half of the first. Each team committed three errors apiece on the night.
Ben Segrest drove in a pair of runs for West Lincoln in the loss. Taylor Myers also slugged a double for the Bears.
Alex Michael Roberts, Tucker Kyzar, and Hayden Avants had a double each for the Bobcats in the win. Kyzar and leadoff batter Noah Magee drove in two runs apiece for the Cats.
Bogue Chito (6-9) wraps up region play next week with Amite County.
West Lincoln (12-5) will finish region action next week by tangling with Loyd Star (11-8).
Enterprise 8, Resurrection Catholic 3
The Enterprise Yellow Jackets (10-9) are winners of four-straight games after getting a Region 8-1A victory over Resurrection Catholic at home on Tuesday.
The home team never trailed, using eight hits to score eight runs after going up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Junior pitcher Kelly Burgess struck out six and walked four in five innings of work. Burgess gave up five hits and two earned runs on the night.
Junior Cooper Jordan tossed the final two innings and struck out two while giving up two hits and one earned run.
Resurrection Catholic of Pascagoula and Sacred Heart Catholic of Hattiesburg are the teams battling for the region title with the Yellow Jackets and coach Cass Brister. EAC split with Sacred Heart earlier this season, beating the Crusaders 6-3 before dropping a 10-5 setback in the Hub City.
Sacred Heart and Resurrection will meet next week.
Burgess hit a double at the plate and the Jackets also got a home run from Prewitt “Big Rig” Falvey.
Falvey drove in two runs and Burgess finished with two hits, as did sophomore Lane Brister.
In other area baseball action from this week, Lawrence County defeated Richland High 6-3, Loyd Star won a trio of region games over Amite County (15-0, 18-0, 16-0), Oak Forest Academy defeated Brookhaven Academy 4-0, South Jones slipped past Brookhaven High 6-0, and Wesson destroyed Port Gibson 25-2.
