Defensive Player of the Week
Laiken Thomas, Wesson
Freshman, Defensive Back
At a MHSAA 3A program like Wesson, you’ve got to have a team that’s a mix of older and younger players on your roster if you want to be successful. In order to do that, you’ve got to find younger guys that can be counted on to play varsity football at a high level and a young age. Head coach Jeremy Loy pretty much knows who his next group of playmakers will be, even when they’re still in junior high.
Freshman defensive back Laiken Thomas is a guy that Wesson fans have known fits that mold and on Friday in a blowout 48-0 win over Franklin County, he had the best game of his young career. Thomas had two interceptions, returning one 60 yards for a touchdown. On offense, he had two catches for 23 yards too.
For his great play in helping to keep the Cobras unbeaten, Thomas has been named The Daily Leader Defensive Player of the Week. Thomas also had two tackles and one tackle for a loss. The Cobra defense will look to have another big night on Friday when Wesson travels to play South Pike in Magnolia for a big region matchup.
