Zack Cotten, Loyd Star
Senior, Linebacker
Loyd Star senior linebacker Zack Cotten is one guy who’s not afraid to mix it up around the line of scrimmage. Cotten was a ball-hawk last season for coach Adam Smith, finishing second on the team with 103 tackles last year, and he’s kept up that effort thus far in 2024,
Last week in a 38-6 win over Richton, Cotten accounted for 12 tackles to lead a swarming Hornet defense. For his top-notch play, Cotten has been named The Daily Leader Defensive Player of the Week. Two of those tackles went for a loss as Cotten and the entire team played with a determined effort.
The Hornets came out with great passion after hearing the Rebel’s talk them down during a pregame speech by the Richton coaching staff. Smith let his guys know it felt personal and Loyd Star played with a chip on its shoulder from the opening kick. Cotten makes up the senior class for Loyd Star along with his twin brother Luke, Braxton Williams, and Brandon Jenkins. The Hornets are on the road this week, playing at Stringer on Friday.
