Defensive Player of the Week
Christian Jones, Brookhaven High
Senior, Defensive Lineman
When Brookhaven High senior defensive lineman Christian Jones was a sophomore, the Panthers had a tough season, winning just one game. Lots of guys don’t stick with football when faced with adversity like that.
Jones didn’t give up on the game and helped the Panthers get back in the MHSAA 5A postseason last season. In 2024, he’s one of the senior leaders that BHS head coach Tucker Peavey can count on to help set the standard for the Panthers. On Friday, playing in front of a big crowd on King Field, Jones was outstanding in a 10-7 win over the 7A Pearl Pirates.
The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Jones used hustle and grit to finish with 11 tackles, eight of them being solo stops. Jones was also in on four sacks and recovered a fumble for Peavey and BHS defensive coordinator Corey McLaurin. Brookhaven High is back at home this week hosting McComb.
