Co-Lin hires Flessner as new assistant baseball coach

Copiah-Lincoln Community College head baseball coach Adam Chamblee was an assistant coach at East Central CC in Decatur before coming to Wesson as the head coach in 2022.

With the recent need to hire a new assistant coach, Chamblee went back to Decatur to hire EC assistant coach Kyle Flessner to his staff in Wesson ahead of the 2024-2025 school year.

Flessner hails from Thomasboro, Illinois and played junior college baseball at Kankakee Community College in Kankakee, Illinois. Over the years, the Kankakee Cavaliers have made many trips to Mississippi to play schools from the Magnolia State during the early spring when the weather is still chilly in Illinois.

In 2017, Kankakee won the NJCAA Division II National Championship and Flessner was a pitcher on that team.

“We’re excited about Coach Flessner joining the Wolf Pack family,” said Chamblee in a release by the school announcing the hiring. “Having coached together in the past, he is someone that I know I can trust, and I have personally been able to see how he can develop pitchers. He will not only develop our current pitcher, but he will also do a lot of recruiting for us.”

East Central has been one of the best teams in the MACCC over the last few years and Flessner was a big part of that success.

Flessner has spent the last four years at East Central, where the Warriors made back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division II World Series. The 2024 East Central team went 55-9 and finished fourth at the World Series.

The recruiting coordinator during his time at East Central, Flessner also coached at DePauw University (Indiana) as a pitching coach in 2019-2020.

“Coach Flessner brings in plenty of experience recruiting the state of Mississippi as he has done for the last four years,” added Chamblee in the school’s release. “He has also won a national championship and has been to the Division II World Series as a coach twice. I think that is a unique thing to be able to bring in a coach who has experience being where we ultimately want to take our program.”

Flessner replaces assistant coach Chase Stewart, who worked with Chamblee for his first two seasons in Wesson. Stewart departed CLCC for an assistant coaching position on staff at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.

The Wolves are coming off a 27-27 season, the most wins for the program since 2008.
