Ole Miss favorite in game against Georgia Tech

Published 9:01 am Saturday, September 16, 2023

Ole Miss went on the road last week and gutted out a 37-20 win over Tulane in a game where the Green Wave didn’t have their star quarterback Michael Pratt.

Next up is a matchup against Georgia Tech, an ACC school that’s 1-1 after losing 39-34 to Louisville in the season opener and then beating South Carolina State 48-13 last week.

During the 2022 season, Georgia Tech moved on from former head coach Geoff “Swag Juice” Collins after the team started 1-3. Collins had gone 3-9, 3-7 and 3-9 in his first three years at the school.

Assistant head coach Brent Key took over and got the top job permanently by going 4-4 during the remainder of the season. Key has now won five games in ten games which compares favorably to Collins winning ten times over 38 games during his entire tenure at GT.

Ole Miss is favored by around 19 points after beating Georgia Tech 42-0 last season. The ACC is 4-1 against the SEC thus far in 2023.

Florida State whipped LSU, North Carolina outpaced South Carolina and the Miami Hurricanes blew past Texas A&M last week. Also, Wake Forest beat Vanderbilt, which is much less shocking than those other results.

It’s probably a little premature to declare that the SEC is a weakened league just like it’s premature to say that Alabama is done after a loss to Texas or to say that Texas is officially back after beating the Tide.

College football is a Saturday filled with games followed by a week of analysis, interviews and hand wringing that can trend towards absurdity.

Anyway, Ole Miss should win because they have better players.

Ole Miss will kickoff at 6:3o p.m. on SECN.
