It was clear before the MHSAA 2A first round playoff series between West Lincoln (19-4-1) and Pelahatchie (6-13) ever started that the Bears would be heavy favorites.
After game one at WL on Saturday, heavy seems like too light of a word. West Lincoln took the opener 25-0 over the visitors from Rankin County.
Pitcher Whitney Grace Whittington gave up two hits for the green in white while striking out 10, walking two and needing just 76 pitches to get through five innings.
West Lincoln outhit Pelahatchie 16-2 and the visiting Chiefs also committed five errors.
Deanna Lofton and Mailey Kate Young had a double each at the plate for WL while senior Mary Claire Johnson hit a triple.
Lofton led coach Anita Thornton’s team with four hits and six RBIs. Senior infielder Ramsey Hall had four RBIs and Johnson drove in three runs.
Whittington and Addi Myers had two RBIs each while Caroline Hedgepath and Kaylee Wallace drove in one RBI each.
Game two will take place Monday at Pelahatchie with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.
