Homecoming week got the ending everyone wanted at Brookhaven Academy (3-1) as the home team took care of business with a 33-16 win over visiting St. Aloysius Catholic (1-3) of Vicksburg.
Trailing 3-0 in the first quarter, BA quarterback Elijah Helton found a wide-open Rayce Stewart in the endzone for the first Cougar score of the night.
BA led 21-3 at halftime and then scored on the first drive of the second half when Helton hit Thomas King on a 33-yard scoring pass.
The Cougars also got some explosive plays in the running game as Helton had 80 yards rushing on just eight carries and senior Trevor Fortenberry ran for a career high 163 yards on the ground.
Included in that total for Fortenberry was a 71-yard touchdown run.
St. Al didn’t do itself many favors all night as the Flashes had 100 yards of penalties and picked up just five first downs against a stingy first-team BA defense.
Helton also threw for 105 yards with his two passing scores.
The Cougars and coach Anthony Hart will face a tough Copiah Academy (4-0) team Friday in Gallman. CA won the matchup of the county neighbors 45-7 last season in Brookhaven.
