MHSAA 3A Softball Second Round
The West Marion Trojans (24-4) are off to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA 3A softball postseason after sweeping a pair of games from Wesson. It was the third-straight year for the Cobras from Wesson to face WM in the playoffs. Next up for West Marion is a third-round pairing with Southeast Lauderdale (12-16).
Coach Michelle Nunnery and Wesson finished the season with a 16-8 overall record. Wesson led 2-1 in the opener played between the school on Saturday in Copiah County. Unfortunately for Wesson, the Cobras saw the Trojans score three runs in the top of the seventh to snatch the win away. Wesson outhit West Marion but were hurt by five errors on Saturday.
On Monday at West Marion, the Cobras led 3-1 after the top half of the third, only for the Trojans to score three times in the bottom half of the frame to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Taylorsville 19, Enterprise 6
MHSAA 1A Baseball Second Round
The Taylorsville Tartars (17-10) never trailed on Saturday in picking up a 9-2 win over Enterprise in the MHSAA 1A baseball second-round opener for both teams.
The teams met again on Sunday, this time at Terry Brister Field on the campus of Enterprise. Coach Cass Brister watched his team grab an early 1-0 lead after two innings, but the visitors from Taylorsville went on to use 12 hits in scoring 19 runs to finish off the series.
It’s the second straight year for Taylorsville to eliminate Enterprise from the 1A playoffs. Taylorsville will face either Noxapater (22-4) or Resurrection Catholic (17-11) in the 1A quarterfinals later this week. EAC ends the season with an 18-12 record.
Bogue Chitto 6, North Forrest 2
North Forrest 7, Bogue Chitto 5
North Forrest 13 Bogue Chitto 9
MHSAA 2A Baseball Second Round
It was a battle until the final out, but the North Forrest Eagles were the ultimate victors on Monday, as their 13-9 win at Bogue Chitto gave them the MHSAA 2A second-round playoff series by a 2-1 game advantage.
The Bobcats and coach Seth Avants fell into a big hole early, as North Forrest scored four in the first, four in the second, and one in the third to lead 9-0 through four complete innings on Monday.
Bogue Chitto fought back, powered by a grand slam from senior Noah Magee, but the Eagles from Eatonville were able to get the necessary outs late to ice the win. North Forrest (17-8) moves on to face Pisgah (26-7) in the 2A quarterfinals.
Avants and Bogue Chitto, winners of Region 7-2A, finish the season with a 14-12 overall record.
Wesson 2, St. Stanislaus 1
St. Stanislaus 16, Wesson 5
MHSAA 3A Baseball Second Round
A split in the opening two games set up a winner-take-all third game hosted by Wesson on Tuesday in the MHSAA 3A baseball second round.
A pitching gem from Wesson senior and Southwest Mississippi CC baseball signee Wyatt Garrett gave the Cobras a 2-1 win at home on Saturday. Garrett struck out seven, walked one and gave up one earned run on three hits through seven innings.
Cooper Neely and Parker Brooks drove in the two runs for Wesson coach Vance Windom on Saturday.
Monday in Bay St. Louis, St. Stanislaus scored six runs in the second to bust open a game that finished after six innings.
Jack Wilson led Wesson on Monday with two RBIs and BP Robbins hit a double for the Cobras in the defeat. The winner of game three on Tuesday will face either St. Patrick (18-12) or Seminary (26-6) in the 3A third round.

Pass Christian 6, Lawrence County 2
MHSAA 4A Softball Second Round
The Pass Christian Pirates pulled out a couple of close wins to squeeze past Lawrence County in the second round of the MHSAA 4A softball playoffs.
LC coach Alexandria Harris-Roberson and her team finished the year with an 18-13 overall record. PC got the win on Friday in game one by scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning after the game finished 0-0 through the first seven.
The Pirates then used 10 hits on Saturday in game two to help them jump out to an early 3-0 lead. LC pulled to within 3-2 after five, but the Pirates from Pass put the game away with three more runs to start the seventh in Monticello.
Pass Christian (19-9) moves on to face Purvis (24-5) in the 4A softball quarterfinals.
East Central 14, Brookhaven High 1
East Central 11, Brookhaven High 0
MHSAA 5A Softball First Round
The East Central Hornets from Hurley were too much for a young Brookhaven High squad to handle in the opening round of the MHSAA 5A softball playoffs.
Ole Brook softball and longtime head coach Mandy Vinson finish the season with a 16-14 overall record and the Panthers only have one senior on their roster and none in the starting lineup.
East Central (24-5) is one of the favorites in the south portion of the 5A bracket, as they’ll next meet North Pike (10-17) in a three-game series. The winner of that will then play the winner of Florence High (15-12) and Vancleave High (10-17) in a semifinal series with a spot in the state championship on the line.
Vancleave, the fourth-ranked team out of Region 4, swept South Jones, the top seed out of Region 3, by winning 1-0 and 11-5 this week.
East Central has not lost to a 5A foe this season and is one of two teams in 2025 to defeat 6A favorites George County (26-2).
