BHS takes first track and field wins of 2025 season

The powerhouse track and field program at Brookhaven High won the first meet of the year hosted by the school on Friday by taking first place in both the girls’ and boys’ championships at the annual BHS Speed Trials.
The Panthers are coached by Darien Dorsey, Tonya Johns, Jocelyn Robinson and Jason Dixon. BHS is next scheduled to run on March 7 at an invitational hosted by Columbia High.
Brookhaven High won the MHSAA 5A Track and Field Championships last year in both girls’ and boys’ competitions. The girls’ squad has won three straight state titles.
BHS will also host an invitational meet on Thursday, April 3.
Junior Caiden Quarles won first place in the 200-meter dash for Brookhaven High with a time of 23.20 seconds, edging out the second placed finisher from Natchez high by .01 second.
Junior Zeden Williams finished first for BHS in the 400-meter dash.
Quarles and Williams paired with Kartayvious Cameron and Freshawn Stewart to win the 4×200-relay event.
Brookhaven High sophomore Coelman Knott won first place in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run.
Another sophomore, Dex’Treyon Harris, won first place in the high jump for BHS. Harris also won first place in the first meet of the year for the Panthers, an event they took part in that was hosted by Clinton High.
Harris, Cameron, Debrecco Mitchell Jr., and Jalen Bracey won the 4×400-relay event for the Panthers.
Sophomore Coderro McDaniel also won at both the Clinton and Brookhaven High events in the shot put.
McDaniel also won the discus at the meet put on by BHS.
Other podium finishers for BHS were sophomore Markiell Robinson (2nd, discus), A’Semiyon Smith (3rd, 110-meter hurdles/2nd, 300-meter hurdles), Cameron (3rd, 400-meter dash), and Mitchell (2nd High Jump).
Additionally, Loyd Star junior Joe Taylor won second in the shot put and his senior teammate Gauge Montgomery finished second in the 3,200-meter run.
First place finishers for the BHS girls’ team included sophomore Jay’Sha Johnson (400-meter dash), sophomore Isabella Iles (800-meter run, 1,600-meter run, 3,200-meter run), junior Kema Roberts (discus), and junior Zharia Belcher (shot put).
Johnson, Iles, Aaliyah Williams and J’Kariya Williams ran together to win the 4×400 relay for Brookhaven High.
Other podium finishers for the Ole Brook girls’ team included Johnson (3rd, 200-meter dash), Roberts (2nd, triple jump), Aaliyah Williams (3rd, 400-meter dash), Brooklyn Lenoir (2nd, 800-meter run), Ariyana Graham (3rd, 800-meter run/3rd, triple jump), Annabelle Summers (3rd, 1,600-meter run), J’Kariya Williams (2nd, high jump), Jontasia Stepney (2nd, discus), and Renyhla Epps (3rd, discus).
West Lincoln senior Kylie Suchy also made the podium by finishing third in the 3,200-meter run.
The event featured competitors from Brookhaven High, Loyd Star, West Lincoln, Gautier High, McComb High, Columbia High, South Pike, North Pike, Forest Hill, Callaway High, and Natchez High.
