Lincoln County rivals Loyd Star and Enterprise will be back in Region 7-2A together again next year when Enterprise moves back up the 2A ranks to join Region 7-2A.
For now, this rivalry is a non-region one and on Thursday in a game played at West Lincoln, the Hornets fought back from a 5-1 deficit after four innings to earn an 11-8 victory.
Loyd Star senior outfielder Eli Thronton drove in four runs and finished with two hits. Junior LS outfielder Casen Easterling had a three RBI night and also finished with two hits. Sophomore catcher Barrett Womack had two hits as well for Loyd Star head coach Jared Britt. Other Hornets to hit safely in the win included Carson Cunningham, Jordyn Kees, and Graham Smith.
Thornton picked up the pitching win by throwing the final 1.2 innings. Riley Case drew the start on the mound and was relieved by Cunningham to start the fourth inning.
Enterprise started Kelly Burgess on the mound, and he was relieved by Hagan Floyd, who pitched the final 1.1 innings for the Yellow Jackets and coach Cass Brister.
Ryder Martin led the Enterprise offense with a pair of doubles on a night where he finished with four hits. Martin scored three of the runs on the night for the Jackets.
Floyd, Prewitt Falvey, AJ Raiford, Cooper Jordan, and Jiles Williams all hit safely for Enterprise in the loss.
Loyd Star (3-2) is scheduled to travel to Wesson on Tuesday for another matchup that will be a region pairing next season when the Cobras join Region 7-2A.
Enterprise (0-7) gets region play started next week with a Tuesday matchup at East Marion.
