Area High School Baseball Roundup: Wesson takes down WL

Here’s a rundown of how area teams fared to start the 2025 baseball season in games played earlier this week.
Wesson 18, West Lincoln 8
West Lincoln made a trip to Wesson on Thursday to get the 2025 baseball kicked off for both pro-grams. The homestanding Cobras took a five-inning victory by pounding out 11 hits and coming back from early deficits twice in the first three innings.
West Lincoln went up 2-0 after the top of the first, only to see Wesson respond with six runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Bears and first year head coach Chris Lyle then scored six runs in the second to go ahead 8-6.
That score held until the bottom of the fourth, when Wesson got eight runs to take the lead for good. The Cobras and coach Vance Windom then ended things via run-rule with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
West Lincoln leadoff batter, senior shortstop Gabe Gennaro, had two hits and scored two runs for the Bears.
Senior center fielder Korben Altman also scored twice and had two hits for the Bears. Altman drove in two runs while Brody Dillon, Caden Seay, and Ben Segrest all had one RBI each. Seay had the only extra base hit for WL with a double.
The Bears used four pitchers with Segrest drawing the start and going 3.1 innings.
Cooper Neely led Wesson with three RBIs. Cobra leadoff batter Wesley Loy also drove in a pair of runs as did Tripp Martin, Baylor Smith, and Aiden Wallace. Parker Brooks and BP Robbins each had one RBI apiece for Wesson.
Robbins picked up the pitching win in relief after giving up one hit in the final three innings of work.
The 3A Wesson Cobras travel to Brookhaven High on Saturday while 2A West Lincoln is scheduled to host Franklin County on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch for the varsity matchup in both of those games.
Brookhaven Academy 16, Amite School Center 6
Brookhaven Academy and coach Randy Spring moved to 2-0 on the season with a second win this week over the Amite School Center Rebels via a run-ruled margin game that went six innings.
Playing at home for the first time this season, the Cougars got a five RBI night from senior infield-er Liam Magee.
Sophomore center fielder Walt Smith had three hits and drove in two runs while batting second for BA. Luke Simmons, Tucker Tarver, Carter Palmer, and Collin Holmes had one RBI each for the Cougars.
Palmer singled in the top of the seventh on Monday to send the winning run across the plate in a 3-2 win for the Cougars. Junior pitcher Caleb Authement struck out six and gave up one hit in five innings in that win.
Tarver started on the mound for BA on Thursday and went two innings, giving way to Magee who pitched the final four.
Brookhaven Academy will host MAIS 6A Hartfield Academy on Tuesday with the varsity match-up beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Brookhaven High 17, Terry High 6
A two-out double by senior Brayden Wilson was the difference for Brookhaven High on Tuesday in a one-run win over visiting Terry High.
Wilson’s heroics came in the bottom of the sixth inning and was followed by senior Mason White getting a groundout, a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the win on the mound in the top of the seventh.
Wilson had two hits as did juniors DJ Washington and Dreamus Harron Jr. Washington had one RBI for BHS head coach Matt White while senior Gaylon Gayten drove in a pair of runs.
Both of Wilson’s hits were doubles while Washington also had a two-bagger.
White struck out five over the final. 2.2 innings of action. Wilson started on the mound and struck out eight in 4.1 innings of work.
The 5A Brookhaven High Panthers are scheduled to host Wesson on Saturday, with the varsity matchup beginning at 1 p.m.
Loyd Star 11, Franklin County 1
The Loyd Star Hornets and longtime head coach Jared Britt only needed five innings to dispatch Franklin County on Monday.
The Hornets hope to be once again contending in the 2A ranks and saw their season get off to a strong start with a one combined one hit performance by starting pitcher Jake Smith and reliever Carson Cunningham.
Smith went four innings and gave up one hit and one earned run while striking out six and walking three. Cunningham came in and pitched one inning of hitless relief.
Sophomore catcher Barrett Womack drove in three runs on two hits. Junior infielder Casen Easter-ling had a three hit day to lead the Hornets with one of those being a double.
Senior Mason Smith had two hits for Loyd Star while sophomore Jordyn Kees, freshman Tucker Smith, junior Riley Case and Jake Smith all had a single each for the Hornets.
Britt’s team will play at Columbia High on Tuesday.
Bogue Chitto 8, Salem 4
First-year Bogue Chitto head coach Seth Avants and his team only needed four hits on Thursday to get a season opening win over 1A Salem. The Bobcats from BC struck out 13 times, but also drew 13 walks against the visiting Wildcats.
Bogue Chitto is still without its full roster as the boys’ basketball team competes in the 2A playoffs, a team that Avants also serves as an assistant coach for.
BC starting pitcher Tucker Kyzar struck out seven in earning the win and reliever Alex Michael Roberts fanned five batters in three innings of relief.
Immanuel Conerly, Warren Wallace, Landon Wright, and Maddox Cooper all hit safely for the Bobcats with Conerly and Wallace finishing with one RBI apiece.
Pisgah 10, Enterprise 0
Pisgah 15, Enterprise 4
The MHSAA 1A Yellow Jackets want to be one of the top teams in their classification this season and they started the season off with a three-game series against a Pisgah squad that figures to be among the top dogs in the 2A ranks this year after making the quarterfinals last season a year after finishing as 2A runners-up.
Game three is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Saturday at EAC.
On Monday at Pisgah, the Dragons got eight strikeouts from senior pitcher Paxton Prisock as En-terprise only had three hits. Prisock is the son of Brookhaven High softball alum Donna Allen Prisock.
Two of those hits were by junior AJ Raiford while Ripken Powell was the other Yellow Jacket to hit safely in the loss.
On Thursday at Enterprise, Pisgah scored four in the third, four in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth.
Prewitt Falvey hit safely for the Yellow Jackets and Raiford drove in one run for Enterprise coach Cass Brister.
