Here is a roundup of the latest information on the MAIS and MHSAA area programs currently playing postseason basketball.

MAIS 5A South State Tournament at Parklane Academy

Brookhaven Academy will have both its boys’ and girls’ teams in action on Friday in the semifinals of the MAIS 5A South State Tournament at Parklane Academy.

The Brookhaven Academy girls punched their ticket to the semis and a spot in the MAIS 5A State Tournament next week at Pillow Academy in Greenwood by beating Copiah Academy 57-32 on Wednesday.

District 3-5A, which Brookhaven Academy is a member of, went 4-0 in the opening round of tournament play against teams from District 4-5A in the girls’ bracket. Columbia Academy, the four seed from District 3, cruised past Cathedral, the top seed from District 4, 46-30 on Tuesday.

Next up for the Brookhaven Academy girls is a matchup at 5:15 p.m. on Friday against Parklane Academy, a team that beat the Cougars twice during the regular season. Columbia and Oak Forest Academy meet in the other girl’s semifinal on Friday.

The Brookhaven Academy boys’ team will face the top seeded Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets on Friday at 6:30 p.m. BA made the second round of tournament play and qualified for the 5A State Tournament by beating St. Aloysius 56-36 on Wednesday.

Copiah and Parklane meet in the other semifinal matchup of the boys’ bracket. The championship and consolation games will all be played on Saturday.

MHSAA Region 7-2A Tournament at Loyd Star

The championship games and consolation matchups have been set for the Region 7-2A Tournament hosted by Loyd Star.

On Friday at 7 p.m., the West Lincoln girls will meet Bogue Chitto in the championship game. The consolation game of the girls’ bracket is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will have Loyd Star taking on Amite County

The West Lincoln girls stayed perfect in region competition this season with a 56-21 win against Amite County on Tuesday. When the teams played in Liberty back on Jan. 31, West Lincoln won 29-26.

In the other semifinal girls’ matchup on Tuesday, Bogue Chitto defeated Loyd Star 65-58.

West Lincoln defeated Bogue Chitto 43-31 and 39-29 when the schools played during the regular season this year.

The boys’ championship on Friday will begin at 8:30 p.m. and has Loyd Star taking on Bogue Chitto.

Loyd Star reached the finals by beating Amite County 45-36 on Tuesday. The Bogue Chitto boys whipped Wilkinson County 85-38 to make the championship game for a third straight year.

Bogue Chitto defeated Loyd Star (63-33, 74-43) twice when the teams met during the regular season. Amite County and Wilkinson County will meet in the boys’ consolation game at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The win over AC was a good one for Loyd Star, which had lost to the Trojans 39-34 a month ago in Liberty, but bounced back to defeat Amite County 39-37 on Jan. 24.

All four teams that make up the consolation and championship pairings in each bracket will advance to the MHSAA 2A State Tournament that begins next week.

MHSAA Region 8-1A Tournament at Lumberton

Both teams from Enterprise will play for a region championship on Friday at Lumberton in the Region 8-1A finals.

The EAC girls’ team will be up first with a 7 p.m. matchup against the hosts from Lumberton. Enterprise made the finals by defeating East Marion 50-12 on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Enterprise beat Lumberton 54-42 when the teams first met and then Lumberton returned the favor last week by winning 51-42 on its home court. Regardless of what happens on Friday, both Enterprise squads will host a home playoff next week when the 1A state tournament starts.

The Enterprise boys’ team reached the championship with a 51-38 win over Lumberton on Tuesday. EAC will take on East Marion in the boys’ finals at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Those two teams played a couple barn burners, both won by Enterprise, earlier this season. The Yellow Jackets beat the Eagles 60-56 in Marion County and 54-52 in their last meeting on Jan. 24.

MHSAA Region 7-4A Tournament at Forrest County AHS

The Lawrence County boys’ and girls’ teams will play in the semifinals of the Region 7-4A Tournament on Thursday in Brooklyn.

The Lawrence County girls’ team plays first at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Sumrall. The winner of that game advances to face either Forrest County AHS or Columbia on Friday for the title.

LC defeated Sumrall twice (49-46, 56-43) when the teams played during the regular season.

The Lawrence County boys’ team will play the late game on Thursday, taking on the host FCAHS Aggies at 8:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play either Sumrall or Columbia on Friday in the championship.

The Cougars and Aggies split their two regular season meetings with LC winning 64-45 on the road and FCAHS returning the favor with a 57-46 victory on Jan. 28.

MHSAA Region 7-3A Tournament at Jefferson County

The Wesson girls will look to punch a ticket to the region championship game when they play in the semifinals on Thursday. Wesson is facing a Jefferson County squad it split with during the regular season.

Tipoff on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Fayette. Wesson beat JC 62-61 at home in January. The Tigers from Jefferson County took the first matchup back in December by a 45-35 final score.

MHSAA Region 3-5A Tournament at South Jones

The Brookhaven High Panthers will have one team playing in the consolation game and one in the championship on Friday in Ellisville.

The BHS boys’ team reached the region championship, where they’ll face host South Jones on Friday at 8:30 p.m., by beating Natchez High 59-51 on Tuesday.

The Brookhaven High girls’ team beat South Jones 44-42 on Monday, but dropped their semifinal game Tuesday by a 39-29 score to top seeded Florence. The Panthers will take on Natchez High, which lost 33-31 to North Pike on Tuesday, in the consolation game that begins at 4 p.m. on Friday.
