The 6-5 season experienced by Enterprise football in 2024 was without a doubt one of the best in school history. The Yellow Jackets swept their county rivals from Loyd Star, Bogue Chitto and West Lincoln for the first time in a long time and qualified for the MHSAA 1A playoffs in a tough Region 8-1A.
The six wins were the most for an EAC team since the 2005 squad also finished 6-5.
The team was loaded with a group of seniors that left their mark on Enterprise football, as many of them began their varsity career as starters while freshmen and sophomores for head coach Trey Woodard.
Enterprise senior quarterback Landon McNickles was the unquestioned leader of the team and a guy that could start at the position at a multitude of larger schools.
For his outstanding effort in leading Enterprise football in a historic campaign, McNickles has been named the 2024 Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Player.
McNickles has been named All-Area multiple times in his career and he came into the 2024 season with a ton of expectations on his shoulders.
His ability to take off and run is one of the main things that opposing defenses had to contend with. McNickles rushed 123 times for 1,184 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. He averaged 9.6 yards per carry and had a long run that went for 85 yards.
Through the air, McNickles went 52-of-116 passing for another 838 yards. He threw five touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
EAC played in a tough division with Lumberton (10-3), Sacred Heart Catholic (8-3) and an East Marion (5-7) team that was loaded with talent despite having a sub .500 record.
McNickles leaves behind some big shoes to fill after finishing off his career as the guy that made things go for Enterprise football throughout his career.
