One of the best football seasons in recent history for Brookhaven High has resulted in a big pack of Panthers being picked for the annual Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) All-State team.
A total of eight Panthers were honored by the MAC while two players from Wesson, two from Loyd Star and one from Enterprise were also selected.
Brookhaven High junior running back Caiden Quarles was named MAC 5A First Team All-State after gaining over 1,000 yards in his first season as a starter for head coach Tucker Peavey.
Junior offensive lineman Zach Richardson was a big part of opening up those holes for his running back and was named MAC 5A Second Team All-State.
Brookhaven High had one of the toughest defenses in the state and as expected, several of the stalwarts of that unit were honored including junior linebacker Durrell Washington Jr. Washington Jr. was tabbed MAC 5A First Team All-State as was senior defensive back Rameriaze Edwards and junior punter Dream Harron Jr. Harron Jr. also played defensive back and wide receiver for the Panthers in addition to his punting duties.
Junior defensive end Jeremy Bibbs made a position change during the season, moving to the defensive side of the ball after previously being a wide receiver. That move proved to be a good one as Bibbs was selected MAC 5A Second Team All-State. Also selected MAC 5A Second Team All-State from BHS was senior defensive tackle Christian Jones and junior defensive back Eddie Ratliff Jr.
Wesson had one player from each side of the ball picked for the 3A All-State team for head coach Jeremy Loy. Senior wide receiver DeShawn Smith was selected MAC 3A First Team All-State and senior defensive tackle Korbin Ashmore was named MAC 3A First Team All-State as well. Ashmore has signed to play collegiately next year at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Loyd Star sophomore Jordyn Kees was again excellent with the ball in his hands, which led to him being selected MAC 2A First Team All-State for head coach Adam Smith. Junior Loyd Star offensive lineman Joe Taylor was also honored MAC 2A First Team All-State as that pair of Hornets were the only players from a Region 7-2A school to be selected.
From Enterprise, senior quarterback Landon McNickles was selected MAC 1A Second Team All-State, earning the honor in the final season of career as a Yellow Jacket for head coach Trey Woodard.
