One of the best high school football players in southwest Mississippi made his pledge official on Wednesday when Wesson senior defensive lineman Korbin Ashmore inked his letter-of-intent with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (10-2) will host Marshall University on Saturday in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Ashmore has played on both sides of the ball during his career suiting up for Wesson and coach Jeremy Loy. He was one of three Mississippi natives in the 19-man class signed by Louisiana head coach Michael Desormeaux along with Adams County Christian School quarterback Coleman Carter and Picayune High running back Darrell Smith.
Wesson finished 7-3 last season as Ashmore made 61 tackles and a team best 18 tackles for a loss in 2024.
Honored multiple times in his career as a Daily Leader All-Area selection, Ashmore was an MAC All-State honoree after his junior season. He finishes his career at Wesson with 169 total tackles, 41 tackles for a loss, and 12.5 career sacks.
“We are so proud of Korbin,” said Loy in a release from the school announcing the signing. “He has embodied what it means to be a Cobra football player. He is loyal, tough, respectful, hardwork-ing and a great teammate. He will carry all of that to ULL and represent himself, his family, and our community well.”
