- FILE PHOTO Lawrence County will be under new football leadership in 2025 as the school has recently posted an opening for the head coach position.
The head football position at Lawrence County High School is now open as applications for the position were solicited this week on the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) website.
The Cougars finished 3-7 in 2024 and were beaten 33-0 by McComb High in the opening round of the MHSAA 4A playoffs.
Jesse Anderson, an alum of the school and former assistant coach in Monticello, has led the Cougars for the last seven seasons. Anderson posted a combined 43-38 record in that time. His 2019 squad made it to the 4A semifinals and finished 9-6. The Cougars qualified for the postseason in all but one year under Anderson.
Next year the Cougars will be in Region 7-4A along with Columbia High, McComb High, Poplarville High, and South Pike. Poplarville is a 4A state finalist this season.
