Thursday night was a special one inside John R. Gray Gymnasium as Brookhaven Academy senior guard Ella Smith topped 1,000 career points in a 60-32 win over Amite School Center. Smith had a game-high 31 points in the win. She finished 4-of-6 from the 3-point line and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

A starter as a sophomore on the MAIS 5A state title team for the Cougars in 2023, Smith scored a career-high 34 points earlier this season in a win over Central Hinds and is averaging over 20 PPG for the Cougars.

BA will play at East Rankin next week in a holiday tournament and will play at home again on Dec. 7 when the Cougars host Adams County Christian School.
