Hester state runner-up for Loyd Star in Class 1 golf

Sophomore Kaylin Hester shot a two-day score of 154 last week to finish second overall in the MHSAA Class I Girls Golf State Championship.

Senior Andie Ramey of Booneville won the event with a 137 at Dogwood Golf Club near Grenada.

As a team, Loyd Star finished fourth with a score of 353 — Hester, senior Ainsley Genarro, and freshman Camille Creel. Loyd Star golf coach is Jonathan Breakfield.

Our Lady Academy of Bay St. Louis won the team portion by edging out Booneville in a tie-breaker. Eighteen teams competed in Class I, which encompasses MHSAA 1A-3A programs.

Junior Terra Vining of Enterprise finished tied for ninth place with a score of 181. Freshman Zoey Ashley of Wesson led her team with a 195, which put her 14th. Creel shot a 199 and Gennaro carded a 203 for Loyd Star. Senior Natalie Williams, eighth grader Piper Martin, and senior Kailee Nuckles all competed for the EAC Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Jaycee Heard, junior Blair Mathis, and junior Kylie Rorie also competed for Wesson in the event.
