Offensive Player of the Week
Cole Gibson, Wesson
Senior, Quarterback
When Wesson football coach Jeremy Loy and his Cobras arrived at Port Gibson High School to play the Blue Wave last week, they didn’t know if they’d arrived at a football game or a music festival. With huge crowds pouring into the area, the Cobras got caught in gridlock on their buses at 5 p.m. and ended up debarking and walking to the field with their equipment.
With a turned-up atmosphere in the stadium for homecoming, it was the Wesson contingent that had something to celebrate, as they kicked off region play with a 56-0 win. Senior quarterback Cole Gibson was his typically solid self in directing the Wesson offense, throwing for three scores and rushing for one more.
For his outstanding play in the eye of the party, Gibson has been named The Daily Leader Offensive Player of the Week. Gibson went 7-of-15 through the air for 80 yards and three touchdowns, all to different receivers in different grades.
The touchdown throws went to freshman Laiken Thomas, sophomore Damarion Smith, and senior DeShawn Smith. Gibson also rushed six times for 57 yards and a touchdown. The Cobras will be back at home on Friday, hosting Franklin County.
