Roundup: Cathedral holds off BA, West Lincoln gets win at Salem

Here’s a roundup of area high school football action from Friday night.

Cathedral School 24, Brookhaven Academy 21

A late Brookhaven Academy (1-5) rushing touchdown by Braden Revere pulled the Cougars to within 24-21, but the visitors from Lincoln County couldn’t recover the onside kick and the Cathedral Green Wave (3-2) were able to take a knee and run out the final 30-seconds of the fourth quarter to hold on for a win in the MAIS District 3-5A matchup. Brookhaven Academy will celebrate homecoming next week by hosting the MHSAA 1A Salem Wildcats.

West Lincoln 41, Salem 8

West Lincoln (1-3) first year head coach Johnny Ball got the first win of his tenure with a big win at Salem (0-4) in Walthall County for the Wildcat’s homecoming. The Bears will host Enterprise next week in a county rivalry game.

Leake County 36, Enterprise 14

Enterprise dropped its first game of the season with a home loss to the visiting Leake County Gators (2-2) on Harry Cole Field. Coach Trey Woodard and his team move to 3-1 on the season and will face their final Lincoln County foe of the season next week when they wrap up non-region play against the West Lincoln Bears.

Loyd Star 38, Richton 6

The homesteading Hornets led 24-0 in the first half as they moved to 2-2 with a blowout win at home over Richton (1-3). Coach Adams Smith and his Hornets head to Stringer next week for another non-region matchup.

Wesson 21, Lumberton 14

Wesson coach Jeremy Loy and his Cobras went back on the road this week and pulled out another close win to move to 4-0 on the season. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime. A two-yard rushing touchdown by senior Deshawn Smith was the go-ahead score for Wesson. The Cobras will host Mize next week.

Magee High 26, Lawrence County 16

Magee High moves to 3-0 on the season with a win at home over Lawrence County (1-3). Coach Jesse Anderson and his LC Cougars finish up the non-region portion of their schedule next week by playing at Tylertown in what will be their third straight road game.
