A veteran wide receiver who’s got breakaway speed, Wesson senior Deshawn Smith made his last first game of high school football career a memorable one. Smith caught four passes on Friday in a 31-8 victory over Bogue Chitto for the Cobras. Of those four catches, three went for scores as Smith picked up 140 yards through the air.

For his big night hauling in passes, Smith has been named The Daily Leader Offensive Player of the Week. Smith averaged 35 yards per catch and had a 50-yard reception in the win. A two-time All-Area selection, Smith hauled in six touchdowns last season for coach Jeremy Loy. Wesson hosts Loyd Star on Friday.
