Getting guys who’ve not played football before to come out is always a focus when a new coach starts at a new school. First year Brookhaven Academy head coach Ryan Ross got Jon Mark Beasley to join the football team this season as a senior after only playing hoops in his younger days.

On Friday in a 40-7 win at Centreville Academy, Beasley looked like an old hand at the game. He picked up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown along with snagging an interception for the BA defense. For his work in winning the turnover battle, Beasley has been named The Daily Leader Defensive Player of the Week. Beasley plays on the wing in basketball and has settled in nicely at outside linebacker during his lone season of high school football. BA hosts Oak Forest Academy on Friday.
