Playoffs have arrived for area high school softball programs

Here’s a breakdown of what the local high school softball postseason looks like.
Teams Who Played on Thursday: Brookhaven High, Bogue Chitto
As the third placed team in Region 5-5A, Brookhaven High (9-19) has paired up with East Central (19-6-1) in the MHSAA 5A first round.
On Thursday, the Panthers and coach Mandy Vincent went on the road to Hurley and took on East Central in what would end up being a 17-0 loss for BHS.
Game two is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Brookhaven. If a third game is necessary, it’ll be played at EC next week. The winner of the series will move on to play Pearl River Central in the second round.
As the third placed team in Region 7-2A, Bogue Chitto (3-12) has paired up with Pisgah (21-5) in the MHSAA 2A first round.
On Thursday, the Bobcats and coach Candance McDowell went on the road to Sand Hill and took on Pisgah in what would end up being a 13-1 loss for Bogue Chitto.
Game two was moved up to a 4:15 p.m. start on Friday at Bogue Chitto in order to beat incoming wet weather. If a third game is needed, it’ll be played at Pisgah next week. The winner of the series will move on to play Choctaw County in the second round.
Teams Who’ll Start Their Series on Saturday: Enterprise, West Lincoln
As the second placed team in Region 7-1A, Enterprise (17-8) is taking on West Bolivar in the MHSAA 1A first round.
The schools will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday at Enterprise that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. If a third game is needed, it’ll be played next week.
EAC and coach Alicia Smith will meet Richton in the second round if they advance past West Bolivar.
As the second placed team in Region 7-2A, West Lincoln (18-4) and coach Anita Thornton are taking on Pelahatchie in the MHSAA 2A first round.
The schools will meet for game one on Saturday at West Lincoln for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Pelahatchie will host game two on Monday and if a third and deciding game is needed, it’ll be played at West Lincoln on Tuesday.
The winner between West Lincoln and Pelahatchie will move on to face Puckett in the second round.
Teams With First Round Byes: Loyd Star, Wesson
Loyd Star and coach Scott Leggett are 21-3 overall and won Region 7-2A with a 5-1 division record. With a first-round bye, the Hornets await the winner of the opening round series between Mize and Philadelphia.
Wesson and coach Michelle Nunnery are 13-8 overall and won Region 7-3A with an 8-0 division record. With a first-round bye, the Cobras await the winner between West Marion and Southeast Lauderdale.
