Madison Moak, Brookhaven Academy
When Madison Moak was in junior high and playing varsity softball for Brookhaven Academy, fans and people around the program were already talking about her future.
Marked as a foundational player for the coming years of BA softball from the time she was in sixth grade, Moak has always been fast and has always known how to get on base.
As a senior, her ability to get on base at the top of the lineup set the table for a Brookhaven Academy offense that piled up runs on the way to the MAIS 5A state championship.
For her outstanding effort at the plate, Moak has been named The Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Offensive Player.
Moak had a team-high 78 hits to pace BA for coach Becky Flowers and her staff during the championship winning season. The speedy centerfielder hit 12 doubles, two triples and eight home runs while driving in 22 runs.
It’s the second time for Moak to earn All-Area Offensive MVP honors as she also got the nod following her freshman season when she had 82 hits for a Brookhaven Academy team that finished as state runners-up that year.
She also led the Cougars this season with a team best .605 batting average. Moak drew 16 walks as a senior and struck out just three times in 150 plate appearances for a team that finished 32-6-1.
Her career began with Moak getting aboard using her speed, but the ability to hit for power was added to her repertoire as she physically grew, which made her that more dangerous at the plate.
It won’t be much of a move for Moak when she suits up next season for the Copiah-Lincoln softball team. She grew up on old Hwy. 51, just a straight 4-mile shot down the road from the campus.
Co-Lin won the 2022 MACCC softball state title with a mixture of speed on the basepaths and power at the plate.
A combination that will have Moak fitting like a hand with a glove when she joins her next team for the 2023 season.
