BHS sweeps Region 5-5A track titles

The Brookhaven High track team is back in action Tuesday, April 3 in the Region 3-5A meet at Hughes Field in Jackson. In the Division 5-5A meet last week Brookhaven easily took both the boys and girls championships over Laurel, West Jones and South Jones.

The Brookhaven High track team defended its home turf by capturing the Division 5-5A track championships in both boys and girls last week on King Field.

Next up is the Region 3-5A meet Tuesday, April 13. The meet begins at 3 p.m. and will take place at Hughes Field in south Jackson.

Winners from the division meet for the Ole Brook boys include Xavier Guyten (100-meter), Javonta Stewart (200-meter, pole vault), Grayson Childress (800-meter), Sam Arnold (1600-meter, 3200-meter), Jalin Brown (110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles) and Quintaye Bates (high jump, long jump, triple jump).

In the girls’ events, Brookhaven got blue-ribbon finishes from Kyja Willis (100-meter, 200-meter), Ramie Stovall (800-meter, 1600-meter), Jakira Cook (high jump), Anna Nicole Gamble (long jump), Kemiya Crockett (triple jump), Kortne Nelson (pole vault) and Ah’Menya Rancifer (discus, shot put).

The Brookhaven track teams are coached by Tonya Johns, Darien Dorsey, Shannon Knott and Sandra Banks.
