BA rallies past Bowling Green

A two out infield single by senior John Ethan Coleman in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Zach Dickerson to score from second base giving Brookhaven Academy a 5-4 victory over the visiting Bowling Green Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers plated a single run in the top half of the seventh to tie the game at four and set the scene for the last inning heroics. Dickerson led off the inning with a single and snuck in under the catcher’s tag attempt after the infield hit by Coleman.

Sophomore Madison Smith picked up the win with three and third innings pitched in relief of Heath Hickman. Smith struck out five and scattered four hits during his evening of work.

Dickerson, Coleman, J. P. Jackson and Alex Smith each had two hits apiece for the Cougars. Carter Culbertson added a single to the BA nine-hit attack.

BA head coach Casey Edwards commented after the game, “It’s good to get the win.” “I’m proud of our guys pulling together and gutting this one out when they faced some adversity.” Edwards continued, “This is part of the growing process and we plan to get better each game.”

Caleb McKenzie went the distance for Bowling Green striking out six in the loss.

BA travels to Franklinton, LA Thursday to complete their series with the Buccaneers. Junior Varsity first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm.

In junior varsity action,  the BA Cougars answered the Buccaneer’s two-run first inning with seven of their own in the bottom of the initial frame and carried that lead to a 12-2 victory.

A two-hit night from Taylor Freeny led the Cougar offensive attack. Fisher Warren, Carter Culbertson, Madison Smith, Levi Smith, Jaden Clark, Colton Watson and Chase Freeman each hit safely for BA. Freeman had three RBI’s on the evening.

After giving up two first inning runs and behind solid defense, Fisher Warren then shut out the Buccaneers going the distance for the Cougars striking out two and scattering five hits on the night. Andy Bienvenue suffered the loss for Bowling Green.
