Local football fans will have only two home games to choose from this week unless they feel up to the task of traveling again this Friday to follow their favorite schools in Week 5 of Friday Night Lights.

The Enterprise Jackets will be home this Friday as they prepare to welcome their Lincoln County/Region archrivals, the Loyd Star Hornets, to Harry Cole Field for the annual Lincoln County Sting Bowl.

The Wesson Cobras will be having their homecoming festivities this Friday as former and past alumni return to their alma maters for their class reunions. Wesson entertains the North Pike Jaguars at Stone Stadium.

On the road, Brookhaven Academy visits Liberty to battle the Amite School Center Rebels. West Lincoln travels to Sandhill to tangle with the Pisgah Dragons. Bogue Chitto invades Hattiesburg to play Sacred Heart, Lawrence County visits Collins and South Pike welcomes Franklin County.

In other games of local interest, Tylertown entertains McComb, Hazlehurst hosts Bassfield, and Copiah Academy visits Parklane Academy.

All games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven (3-1)  has an open date this week to nurse their injured players as they prepare for their first region test next week against Laurel.

In last week prognostications, I did not reach my goal, but I still managed to finish with a 4-4 record on my predictions. Hopefully, I can get it right this week, but don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy it when our local teams come out to prove the prediction wrong. I would like to say congratulations to Brookhaven Academy for winning their first game of the season.

West Lincoln (2-2), coached by Willie Brumfield, saw their two-game winning streak come to an end last Friday in Biloxi falling to the St. Patrick Fighting Irish 35-0.

This week, the Bears are looking to climb back into the win column as they prepare to travel to Sandhill to battle the Pisgah Dragons.

The Dragons (0-4), coached by Michael Granberry, are searching for their first win of the season. Pisgah lost 48-24 to Enterprise-Clark last Friday.

West Lincoln’s top offensive performer from last week was running back Jade Use. He was the top rusher for the Bears with 17 carries for 118 yards.

Defensively, Liam Rutland, Charles Wayne Smith and Julian Anderson each had five tackles for the Bears.

Last year: Pisgah blanked West Lincoln 27-0

My prediction for this Friday: The Bears will give the Dragons a fight until the very end, but Pisgah will prevail 28-20.

Bogue Chitto (1-3, 0-2),  coached by Gareth Sartin, suffered a tough heartache last week falling to the Mt. Olive Pirates 8-0 on homecoming night.

This week, the Bobcats will be looking to secure their second win of the season as they visit Hattiesburg to take on the Sacred Heart Crusaders.

The Crusaders (2-1, 1-0) are currently riding a two-game winning streak after beating the Dexter Bulldogs 10-8 in Region 4-1A action last Friday

BC’s top offensive performers last week were freshmen quarterback Tucker Lambert. He led the team with 17 rushes for 96 yards, while completing three passes for 47 yards. Kobe Roberts contributed to BC’s ground attack with 11 carries for 44 yards. Dee Dillon was the top receiver with two catches for 38 yards.

Defensively, Bo Smithers paced the Bobcats in tackles with 12. Kobe Roberts, Brandon McKenzie, Kody Halford and Will Fauver contributed with eight tackles apiece.

Last year: Bogue Chitto destroyed Sacred Heart 38-16.

My pick for this Friday: The Bobcats are hungry for a win and will devour the Crusaders 28-10 in Hattiesburg.

Brookhaven Academy (1-3, 0-1), under the direction of first-year coach Blake Purvis, captured their first win of the season by defeating the Bowling Green Buccaneers 29-15 on homecoming night last Friday.

This week, the Cougars are gearing up for another big district test as they prepare to invade Liberty to battle the Amite School Center Rebels.

The Rebels (4-1) are experiencing a good rebuilding year as they beat Union Christian Academy 32-12 last week.

BA’s top offensive performers last week were senior quarterback Heath Hickman, completing 20 of 28 passes for 259 yards, and senior running back Connor Dorman, finishing the contest with 131 total yards.

Defensively, Garrett Pace led BA with 11 tackles. Michael Fiorella provided 9.5 stops.

Last year: Brookhaven Academy clobbered ACS 43-0

My prediction for this Friday: The Cougars will capture their second straight win of the season after knocking off the Rebels 35-20.

Loyd Star (1-3),  coached by first-year coach Adam Cook, is searching for a win after receiving their third straight loss of the season falling to the Lake Hornets 24-6 last Friday at William E. “Sambo” Smith Field.

This week, the Hornets are excited to start Region 7-2A action as they prepare to travel across Lincoln County to Enterprise to tangle with the Jackets.

Loyd Star’s top offensive performers last week were: Brett Calcote with 12 rushes for 64 yards. Freshmen quarterback Parker Flowers completed two of nine passes for 26 yards and two interceptions, while rushing for 32 yards on 16 carries. Peyton Flowers was the top receiver with two catches for 26 yards and rushed for 18 yards on four carries

Defensively, Calcote led the Hornets with 14 tackles. Ray Richardson provided 13 stops and intercepted a pass. Peyton Flowers contributed 12 tackles.

Enterprise (0-4),  coached by Brook Burns, are currently on a 34-game losing streak after being hammered by Leake County Gators 58-8 last week.

This week, the Jackets are pumped to be hosting the Loyd Star Hornets at home for the Sting Bowl and have high hopes in claiming the first win.

Enterprise’s top offensive performer last week was sophomore running back Chance Lacking with nine carries for 40 yards rushing.

Defensively, Devon Kirtfield paced Enterprise with eight tackles. Braxton Thompson, Austin Coleman and Dalton Wilcoxson contributed seven stops apiece.

Last year: Loyd Star defeated Enterprise 33-22.

My prediction for this Friday: This should be an exciting ball game as both teams are hungry for a win. Loyd Star will prevail 36-30.

Lawrence County (3-1),  under the direction of first-year head coach Jaymie Palmer, experienced a late night thriller, like most teams in the area, and captured the third win of the year with 21-20 speaker over the Prentiss Bulldogs.

This week, the LCHS Cougars are gearing up for their month-long road tour as they prepare to make their first stop in Collins to tangle with the Collins Tigers.

The Tigers (2-2), coached by Ryan Earnest, pulled off a shocking 40-34 win over Bassfield Friday night.

Lawrence County’s top offensive performance last week was T-Tex Cole rushing for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensively, Jaylin Madison, Brandon Armstrong and Willie Earl Bryant paced LCHS with a quarterback sack apiece.

Last year: Collins overwhelmed Lawrence county 38-0.

My pick for this Friday: The Cougars will be looking to surprise the Tigers and escape with a 42-35 win.

Wesson (2-2), coached by Ronald Greer, experienced another rare night last Friday as the game was called midway through the third quarter due to storms and power outages. The Cobras lost to Seminary Bulldogs 34-6.

This week, the Cobras are happy to return home after a two-week road trip. Wesson will have to overcome homecoming distractions to get ready for the North Pike Jaguars.

The Jaguars (2-2), coached by Chris Smith, suffered a tough 19-16 loss to Germantown last week.

Wesson’s top offensive performer was sophomore quarterback Peyton Burns completing six-of-eight passes for 50 yards.

Defensively, Kendrick Brown paced the Cobras with four tackles and one quarterback sack.

Last year: North Pike roared pass Wesson 49-12.

My prediction for this Friday: This should be an offensive showdown on homecoming night for Wesson as the Cobras win 56-49.

Franklin County (1-2),  coached by first-year coach Anthony Hart, basically experienced an unwilling night-off last week as major thunderstorms forced the game against Tylertown to be cancel after just barely starting the first quarter.

This week, the Bulldogs are exciting to be back on gridiron as they invade Magnolia to battle the South Pike Eagles.

The Eagles (2-1), coached by Michael Andrews, enjoyed an open date last week after defeating Hammond 45-34 two weeks ago.

Last year: Franklin County surpassed South Pike 28-22.

My prediction for this Friday: Even though the Bulldogs are experiencing a rebuilding year Franklin County should nip South Pike 21-20.
