Three teams will battle for the District crown in Dixie Majors action

BUDE – The Lincoln County Americans managed to keep their season alive Wednesday night with a 10-9 victory over the Walthall All-Stars in Dixie Youth 11- and-12-year-old District Six Tournament action at Leroy “Cowboy” Jones Memorial Field in Bude.

With the Americans victory, three teams, with one loss each, will be battling for the District crown Thursday night in Franklin County.

The Lincoln County Nationals will take on the Walthall All-Stars Thursday, starting at 7 p.m.

The Americans will face the winner of that contest for the Championship Friday starting at 7 p.m.

The last two remaining two teams will receive an automatic berth to play in the State Tournament at Mendenhall, which begins July 17.

In a recap of Tuesday’s game, the Lincoln County Nationals edged Franklin County 5-4. In the nightcap, Walthall clipped the Americans 11-10 in extra innings.

Lincoln Co. Americans 10, Walthall 9 

The Lincoln County Americans knew coming into Wednesday’s contest that they would have a tough battle on their hands if they wanted to keep their season alive.

The Americans handed the Walthall All-Stars their first loss of the tournament with a nail-biting 10-9 win.

Collin Waldrop pitched the win for the Americans. Waldrop (7K, 5BB) gave up only eight hits in his performance.

KJ Lampton was the losing pitcher for the Walthall All-Stars.

Tyler Fortenberry powered the Americans’ offense at the plate with a home run. Piker Wallace contributed a triple and a single. August Sullivan ripped a pair of singles. Jackson Carter provided a double. Collin Waldrop, Jacob Smith, Matthew Burns, Jonah Smith, Gage Brown and Dakota Willard hit safely

Lincoln Co. National 5, Franklin Co. 4 

The Nationals escaped elimination Tuesday night to advance to the championship on a huge grand slam home run swing from Colby Carwyle in the sixth inning with two outs.

The Nationals entered the sixth inning trailing Franklin County 4-0.

Dylan Carter was the winning pitcher on the mound Nationals with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

J.T. McCaffrey helped the Nationals at the plate with two singles. Hitting safely were Jon Albritton, Sam Smith, Cooper Moak and Trace Brady.

Walthall 11, Lincoln Co. Americans 10 

The Lincoln County Americans lost in extra innings to the Walthall All-Stars in an exciting offensive marathon in the final game of the night.

The Americans pitched Collin Waldrop for three innings. Matthew Burns threw four innings in relief.

Tyler Fortenberry powered the Americans at the plate with two home runs. Fortenberry’s second home run came in the top of the seventh inning to give the Americans a 10-9 lead.

Ty Webb contributed a home run, a double and a single. Matthew Burns provided a double and single. Burns’ double in the top of the sixth helped the Americans tied the contest 9-9 to force extra innings.

Pike Wallace, Jacob Smith, Jackson Carter and Jonah Smith hit safely.
