Lincoln County’s All-Star teams conclude great season
The three Lincoln County All-Star teams competed well in the Dixie Youth State Tournament last weekend in Laurel and Mendenhall.
In the 12-year-old Majors division at Mendenhall, the Lincoln County Nationals and the Americans All-Stars secured a split in the opener on Friday night as the Americans defeated Puckett 16-2 and the Nationals fell to Columbia 16-4.
In Saturday’s contest, the Nationals knocked off Puckett 14-0 and Walthall County 2-1 to advance to Sunday’s competition.
The Americans lost to Columbia 13-0 in the early contest, but bounced back to eliminate Columbia Duckworth 9-7 in the nightcap.
In Sunday’s games, the Americans eliminated their rival counterparts, the Lincoln County Nationals, 2-0 to be one of the final four teams left in the tournament. The Americans ended up falling to the Lawrence County All-Stars 5-4 in the semifinals in the late game.

Collin Waldrop was the winning pitcher for the Americans with five strikeouts and one walk. Matthew Burns (3K, 2BB) pitched in relief. Tyler Fortenberry 2K, 0BB) earned the save in the sixth inning.
August Sullivan led the Americans at the plate with a home run and a single. Tyler Fortenberry contributed two singles. Gage Brown provided a triple. Hitting safely were Colin Waldrop, Jackson Carter, Joseph Smith and Matthew Burns.

Matthew Burns pitched the win for the Americans with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Dylan Reeves suffered the setback on the mound for the Nationals. Dylan Carter also pitched in relief.
Fortenberry, Waldrop, Carter, Burns and Brown directed the Americans offense with a single apiece.
Sam Smith and Colby Carwyle led the Nationals at the plate with a single each.

Fortenberry absorbed the setback on the mound for the Americans with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Sullivan and Burns powered the Americans’ offensive attack with a home run each. Dakota Willard, Fortenberry and Brown hit safely
In the 10-year-old AAA division at Laurel, the Lincoln County Americans won their opener Friday night against the Laurel Nationals All-Stars 10-5.
In the Saturday contest, the Americans suffered two straight tough losses to end their season. The Americans fell to Kosciusko 8-5 in the early contest and were eliminated from the tournament by Yazoo in a tough 7-6 battle.

Brandon Welch pitched the first three innings for the Americans and had four strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Rushing (6K, 3BB) finished the game out on the mound in relief.
Will Loy led the Americans’ offense with a double. Samuel Evans contributed two singles. Carter Holcomb, Caleb Smith, Corby Husser, Hunter Goebel, and Jacob rushing had a single apiece. Payne Waldrop, Easton Sartin, Caden Yarborough and Gavin Leggett hit safely.

Will Loy (0K, 3BB) started and pitched the first three innings of the game for the Americans. Payne Waldrop (3K, 3BB) closed out the game in relief.
